Repelling

Just a short note about today. Spent majority of day helping Karley and Kensey paint a guardhouse.  Didn't think we would get it done in one day but we did!!  Great gals here as interns for a year.  I look forward to getting to know them better during my stay.

The older girls at Eagle's Nest have started helping with the Manna Feeding Program.  Onoria has been at Eagle's Nest since I started coming here in 2007, and I believe she was here several years before that.   Diana has been here about two years. It is a way to give them responsibilities and to serve those that are less fortunate than they.  Larry told me that the older kids helped carry cement blocks up a hillside behind the home to help build a stove at a home not long ago - which is awesome.  Larry said that one of the very poor children from the village helped with a project and she shared that she was poor too but wanted to help where she could.  How awesome is that!!

The Mamma's take the young children/babies outside to play if weather permits.  Little Ms. Lizzy was stirring a concoction of beautiful flower pedals and was anxious to share with me.  She has been here since she was a baby and just adorable.  The little boy is new to the home since I left the end of February last year and haven't gotten his name down yet.

And so you never know what you will see in Guatemala.  They do so much manual labor in ways that you could truly never imagine.  I had seen some mean working on the roof of the building where teams stay.  I assume they are patching leaks on the roof but really have no clue.  The scapeling was the first thing that
caught my eye when I went to Manna.  Just some two by fours and plywood is all they need.
Much later in the day I returned and saw them repelling off the side wall with a tie down strap - Really !!!
The man on the roof had it wrapped around his waist to hold the man while he repelled down the side of the wall.  The man repelling had the tie down strap wrapped around his legs just like a repelling set up - it just happened to be a bright orange tie down strap instead.  You know those kind with a big hatchett that you use to get it real tight?  He lowered and lifted him a few times before they gave him a drill gun to repair something on the side of wall.  Truly amazing.  When we think we are having a hard time doing home repairs or construction - Think again !!

Many of the workers here at EN have been here for years.  Just like the Mamma's that work in the Home -
which says a lot about Larry and Claire who founded EN.  Some of the employees have been with them for 20 plus years.  It is awesome to see the men that work outside interact and play with the children when they are out and about.  It is very touching to see and is a blessing for EN to have such loyal workers.

It is an honor to be serving alongside them.

Blessings to you,

Denise

Proverbs 3:3-4  Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you.  Wear them like a necklace: write them deep within your heart.  Then you will find favor with both God and people and you will gain a good reputation.
